Sheridan Back At The Proact

Chesterfield
vs.
Plymouth Argyle

The Proact Stadium

16/04/2013

7-45pm

The Spireites face their former manager for the first time since he was sacked earlier in the season. Plymouth have made a big revival under Sheridan, at one time they looked favourites to lose their league status, although they are 19th they are still only 3 points above Torquay who occupy 23rd spot. They have won 4 of their last 6 games, although they have lost their last 2 away games, losing 1-0 at Burton Albion and 2-0 at York City. On Saturday John Sheridan collected the Manager of the Month award for March.

Hopefully he will get a big welcome back from the crowd, although we did suffer relegation last season, he still managed to win the JPT and won the 2011 league 2 title.

Soon as the game starts it will be a different story the fans need to be at full volume to cheer on their team to victory. A win tonight and defeat for Bradford against Rotherham would put us just a point off the last play-off spot.

Vital Quotes:

Paul Cook told BBC Radio Sheffield:'Up until Bradford scored we were excellent but after they scored we lost our way.

'Supporters can question every aspect of the game but they should never be able to question character and commitment. That should be a given.

'If we win 3 games then we'll ask serious questions of the teams above us. We're fighting for our lives to get in this promotion race.

'I think John should get an excellent reception his achievements here are there for all to see'.

John Sheridan told BBC Radio Devon:'I'm pleased there's a game coming round quickly.

We've got to concentrate on Chesterfield now.

If we keep playing the way we're playing we'll have a good chance of getting something out of it.'

Chesterfield Team News:

Jack Lester (back) misses out, but Marc Richards should be fit to start.

Player to watch: Marc Richards

Even though he didn't start against Bradford due to injury he came on and was involved in both of the goals for the Spireites. Up front on his own he works hard for the team, holding up the ball for his team mates and he is capable of scoring.

Plymouth Argyle Team News:

Plymouth are without winger James Banton after the Crystal Palace loanee was recalled by his parent club. Argyle are also without on-loan Swindon midfielder Lee Cox after he was ruled out for the rest of the season with a dislocated shoulder.

Player to watch: Conor Hourihane

The midfielder wearing number 6 has scored five goals and as 3 assists this season, he joined Plymouth in 2011 after impressing in a trial, since then he as made 77 appearance and scored 7 goals.

Match Facts & Stats

The Spireites home record against Plymouth is won 12 drawn 7 and lost 8, scoring 45 goals and conceding 35.

In the first half of the season Plymouth conceded 12 goals in the last 15 minutes of games.

Ref Watch:

Nigel Miller the man in charge of this game is the last Referee to give the Spireites a penalty in the league. The last time he refereed a game involving the Spireites was 18th Feb 2012 at the Proact against Sheffield Wednesday, Morgan converted the Penalty giving Town a 1-0 victory. He has also given 3 penalties in his last 6 league games, could the Spireites get their first penalty of the season?. He must be highly thought of by the FA because he was the Referee in charge of this seasons JPT final.

Match Prediction:

Sheridan will be fired up and wanting to prove the Chesterfield board wrong for sacking him, I feel the way the Spireites are playing they will win game and prove too strong for their opponents, so I'm going for a 2-0 victory to the Spireites.

Next Fixtures:

With the Spireites playing at Fleetwood for the first time, and it being the last away game of the season, their will be lots of fans wearing fancy dress including me. Hopefully they will still be in with a chance of the play-offs.
