The Proact Stadium
After a pitch inspection this morning, the game was given the go ahead. The only problem is the snow that needs clearing, an appeal went out for volunteers. Paul Cook so determined to get the match on, was spotted helping them clear the snow. After suffering their worst defeat of the season going down 3-0 at Southend. Cook is determined to get the match played so his team can send a message out to the rest of the league, watch out the Spireites are coming for you. The Spireites put in a great display against Northampton winning 3-0 at The Proact. Southend have suffered a slump in form, since the two teams last met, they have lost their last 2 games, an FA Cup fixture at Brentford losing 2-1, an a 3-0 defeat at Exeter. They beat Dagenham and Redbridge away 3-0, this was the first match after beating the Spireites, since then they have lost 3 games and drawn 1 in the league. Paul Cook as a full squad to choose from including 2 new signings, Gnanduillet and Brindley although they might be sat on the bench, depending on wether he decides to stick with the same starting eleven that won against Northampton.
Cook talking to the club website said: 'If we play like we did against Northampton, we'll win the game. It's not complicated Southend have their hands full with us.'
Paul Sturrock talking to the Media said: 'I think tomorrow is another difficult and dangerous game for us because they're a very good side with some exciting forward players and it will be tough for us there.
With a full squad to choose from Cook has plenty of options with striker Gnanduillet and full back Brindley looking to make their debuts having both just signed until the end of the season.
Tendayi Darikwa Decembers League 2 young player of the month winner will be a big threat. mainly playing on the right wing can pop up all over the pitch, never stops running or closing down and a constant menace to oppositions defence and now being scouted by Everton and Liverpool.
Southend will give late fitness tests to Marc Laird (hamstring) and Ryan Cresswell (shoulder), but Kevan Hurst (back) is expected to return. Loan signing Caolan Lavery is available but striker Britt Assombalongo (shin) is still unavailable.
Kevan had 3 loan spells with the Spireites and was influential in Southends win at Roots hall, can play anywhere in midfield, although he mainly plays on the left. He has scored 3 goals and as 12 assists already this season.
The Spireites have won 12 drawn 5 and lost 6 in their previous meetings at home, scoring 37 goals and conceding 28. This season Southend have conceded just 26 goals. They have conceded the joint fewest goals in League Two from corners (1) and set plays in total 4.
Mark Heywood from Cheshire is in charge today, not to be confused with Mark Haywood a fellow league referee from Yorkshire. Thanks to Stand Up for pointing that out. He refereed the Spireites 4-1 home win against Cheltenham, the same result would be nice.
This will be a tough one, but with Southend suffering with injuries and a run of poor form, the Spireites will be up this game and will win 2-0.
Next up a trip too Rochdale with their former manager Keith Hill back in charge. This will be his first home match in charge of Rochdale since re-joining them this week.
