The Spireites will be looking too end 2012 on a high when they play Morecambe at home. The Spireites home form as improved dramatically under Paul Cook, having won 4 of their last 5 home games, scoring 16 goals and conceding 4. Morecambe have only won 2 losing 4 of their last 8 games in all competitions. Although they do have a good record against the Spireites , they won 2-0 at home in October and also beat Town by the same score the last time they visited Chesterfield. The Spireites are looking for their first victory at home to Morecambe.
Assistant manager Tommy Wright told the Star: 'Morecambe have been a bit of a bogey side. They're all difficult games, they'll come here having had some good results on the road, so we'll have to be careful'.
A dilemma for Cook because Richards is fit to play, will he start him on the bench and stick with the same starting 11 that won 3-0 against York City. Plus Danny Whitaker will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench to score against York.
Mark Randall will be looking to open up the Morecambe defence with his passing, having set Talbot up for the opener against York. A much improved player under Cook always capable of finding a defence splitting pass.
Fit again Kevin Ellison is available for the Shrimpers.
Kevin Ellison has scored 10 goals and also has 4 assists to his name in all competitions so far this season. The left footed wide man is a good crosser of the ball and also as a good eye for goal.
Spireites home record against the Shrimpers is won 0 drawn 2 lost 2. Their overall record is won 1 drawn 5 lost 3. Scored 9 conceded 13.
Carl Berry will be in charge of today's fixture. He refereed Spireites 1-0 away victory at Exeter. His last visit to Chesterfield was last seasons 3-1 FA Cup defeat against Torquay.
I feel that the Spireites will finally beat Morecambe at home for the first time. They will have to much quality for a struggling Morecambe team.
The mouth watering New Years Day away fixture at Accrington Stanley. Paul Cook goes back to his former club for the first time since taking over at the Spireites. Will he get a good reception from the Accrington Stanley faithful?
