Gary McSheffrey Joins The Spireites
Gary McSheffrey has been training with the Spireites for several weeks and was yesterday signed by Paul Cook until January. No longer wanted by Coventry his hometown club, his dad played with Jimmy hill during the 60's when he played for the Coventry Fans football club.
Gary McSheffrey has a career haul of 88 league goals, 61 of which came in his 2 spells at Coventry.
In all competitions, he has struck 104 times in 345 appearances with Coventry City, Stockport County (loan), Luton Town (twice on loan), Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest (loan) and Leeds United (loan).
McSheffrey told the official club website 'I could have just seen out my contract at Coventry and picked up my wages every month but the manager here as given me the opportunity to play football. I plan on taking the opportunity with both hands.'
Credit to him he could have stayed at Coventry and picked up his wages like some players do, he has come to the Spireites because he wants to play football.
He goes on to say: 'The squad is very impressive and there's a good feeling about the place. The manager has a philosophy of total soccer and the lads play some good football. Its a club that's only going one way.'
Credit must go to Paul Cook and Chris Turner that the club are attracting players in the calibre of McSheffrey. He has been signed until January with a chance to have his contract extended.
He then says: 'Its good for both parties because it gives me an opportunity to start playing again and the club can take a good look at me over the next few months. There's a strong possibility that it could be turned into a permanent arrangement.'
Welcome to the Spireites Gary Mcsheffrey we are pleased you have joined us and we look forward to seeing you in a Town Shirt.
