Spireites Interested In Signing Woods
The attacking left-sided midfield player noted for his long range shooting and free kicks was released by Doncaster Rovers in the summer.
He has played in two games for the Spireites behind closed doors against Grimsby Town and Sheffield Wednesday. Cook has been impressed with his performances, so much so that he asked the board if he could sign him. Although the club have gone over budget this summer, a meeting was held today and the matter might have been discussed.
Cook told the media: 'I know there's been a lot of talk about budgets, but we are always looking to improve, it's an on going thing, we always interested in good players.
The fact that the club are always on the lookout for quality players to strengthen the squad shows how ambitious Chesterfield are becoming.
Woods was the subject of a bid of £500,000 from Preston in the summer of 2010, Doncaster turned down the bid and Woods wanted to stay with Doncaster Rovers.
Cook goes on to say: 'Martin Woods has been with us. Players of the quality of Martin Woods are never on trial at a League Two club so I won't do him the disrespect of saying he is on trial.
'He has played for us in both our behind-closed doors matches in the last week or so at home to Grimsby and at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday and he played very, very well. He is a quality player.
'There's a board meeting this afternoon so I'll try my arm again. It's my job to pester the board.'
Hopefully he can persuade the board to sign him, because he is a quality player that will strengthen the squad.
