Ambitious Spireites Sign Roberts

Cook has been desperate to sign a natural left winger since he arrived at the club. Chief executive Chris Turner told the club website: 'Gary is a quality signing - I don't think there's anybody outside the premiership who's better on the left wing. The left-hand side has been unbalanced for a long time and the addition of Gary will further strengthen the firepower as he creates and scores goals.

'Paul Cook has patiently waited for the deal to be done as he was very keen to bring Gary in. Chairman Dave Allen has provided some great support to ensure the conclusion of the deal.'

He has played in League One for the last 5 seasons, firstly with Huddersfield Town, making 164 appearances scoring 31 goals. Last season he played for Swindon making 38 appearances, scoring 4 goals.

The fact that he has dropped down to League 2 and signed for the Spireites, shows that the club does has pulling power. The fact that the Spireites went for someone like Roberts shows how much drive and ambition the club have.

A 3 year contract was today signed by Gary Roberts, 29 after being released by Swindon, the Robins could no longer afford his wages and needed to cut their wage bill.
