Eric Nixon Becomes The New Goalkeeping Coach

Eric Walter Nixon started his football league career with Manchester City in 1983 making 58 League appearances before joining Tranmere in 1988. When he was at Manchester City during the 86-87 season he achieved the rare distinction of playing for a club in all four divisions in the Football League in a single season. The clubs were Southampton (First Division), Bradford City (Second Division), Carlisle United (Third Division) and Wolves (fourth Division).

He made 432 appearances including 333 league appearances in his 9 year spell at Prenton Park. He was with the club during their rise from the Fourth Division to the First Division (Championship it is now called), play-offs.

He helped the team win the Leyland DAF Cup in 1989-90 beating Bristol Rovers 2-1.
He left Tranmere in 1997 having spells at Stockport and Wigan before re-joining Tranmere in 1999, he was their for 4 seasons but only made 5 League appearances.

His career spanned 22 years, with 13 of them spent with Tranmere, he played for 13 different clubs making over 500 league appearances.

After hanging his boots up he went into coaching he now holds the UEFA goalkeeping coaching licence and a UEFA football coaching licence. In 2006 he gave up his coaching responsibilities with Tranmere Rovers because of Knee problems. He opened up a health and fitness studio in Prenton before moving to Dubai where he worked as a personal fitness trainer.

In 2008 he was appointed goalkeeping coach at Conference North club Fleetwood Town, leaving the club in 2011.

He now joins the Spireites linking up with Paul Cook, who both played together at Tranmere and Stockport in the late 90's.
