The Spireites Miss Out On The Play-Offs After Win.
A fantastic turn out for the Spireites at Fleetwood, there was all kinds of fancy dress costumes on display, blue morphs, smurfs, bananas, old women and super heroes. The Spireites were still in with a chance of reaching the play-offs if they won, and Bradford failed to win at home against Burton Albion.
Marc Richards had a chance early on, when he was put through by Brindley, his low shot was saved by Davies. Cooper headed one just over after being found by Townsend.
Fleetwood then hit back, Crowther hit a lovely shot but Lee managed to parry it and then reacted quickly to a second effort, this time he caught it. They kept attacking the visitors goal, but they couldn't find away past the superb Tommy Lee.
Gnanduillet came on for Brindley after 34 minutes, to try and give Richards more support and to try and get the Spireites back into the game.
Ten minutes later Gnanduillet was found by Trotman after a Townsend corner, he calmly headed the ball past Davies to give the Spireites the lead.
Trotman again involved, played a long ball which found Gnanduillet, he chested the ball down for Richards who blasted his half-volley past Davies to make into 2-0. The Atmosphere was electric it felt like an home game, I have got to say Fleetwood have the quietest home fans I've come across this season.
There was bad news filtering through to the away supporters. Bradford were beating Burton Albion 1-0.
A poor header from Cooper for Tommy Lee was pounced on by Jamille Matt who lobbed it just wide.
O'Shea broke clear and found Togwell he struck his effort on target, Davies saved it, but it rebounded to Richards who scored past Davies, a brace for Richards to give the Spireites a 3-0 lead.
In the 68th minute Mangan found himself in space with just the keeper to beat, he calmly stroked it through the legs of Tommy Lee to pull a goal back for the home team.
Chesterfield managed to see out the game, winning 3-1, the bad news was that Bradford had won, in doing so they took the last remaining play-off spot.
Stand Up said:'Tommy yet again proved his worth keeping the score to nil, then the Richards and Gnanduillet show took over, the team performance sets us up nicely for next season, confidence will soon eradicate the contempt spouted by a fickle few.'
My Man of the Match goes to Marc Richards, his work rate was outstanding he deserved his 2 goals. Tommy Lee was a close second, his saves kept us in the game.
The last game of the season is at home to Exeter, although nothing to play for it would be great to finish off the season with a win.
