Undeserved Defeat For The Spireites.

The Spireites went into the game full of confidence after winning at Dagenham, so Cook started with the same eleven. Good news for the Spireites was that Lester (virus) and Darikwa (hernia) were both fit enough to make the bench.

Cooper had to be alert straightaway has he put in a great tackle to deny the home team an attack on goal. Keith Lowe had a great chance to give his team an early lead missing his header from six yards. O'Shea had a chance to score for the Spireites but he made poor contact with the ball and hit his effort wide.

Both sides failed to dominate the game as both sides struggled to keep possession. Gnanduillet hit a thunderbolt from 20 yards which produced a good save from Brown.

Chesterfield were starting to dominate and getting more of the ball, they were struggling to cope with Gnandullet, he managed to get away from his marker and met O'Shea's cross from six yards out, but managed to head it into the ground.

Conor Townsend came close with an header, putting his effort just wide of the target.

H.T. 0-0.

Spireites carried on where they left off, Gnanduillet came close when his shot was deflected over. Hird put a cross into the penalty area, which looked to have struck the arm of a Cheltenham player. The penalty wasn't given, much to the annoyance of the Spireite faithful behind the goal. Will the Spireites ever be given a penalty, it's over a year since they were last awarded one in the league.

Richards was clearly frustrated he had worked hard for the team but still hadn't a goal to show for it and was booked for trying to prevent a Cheltenham free-kick from being taken. Moments later Richard's was replaced by Jack Lester. He nearly scored when he turned and shot just over.

Jason Taylor nearly scored for the home side, when he sent his volley inches over the crossbar. In the 80th minute Gnanduillet who had again worked tirelessly for the team was replaced by Darikwa.

Five minutes from time Lester managed to escape from his marker and he hit a strong shot which went agonisingly inches wide of the target. it would have given the Spireites a deserved victory but 2 minutes into injury time Benson scored with a diving header after being set up by Jones his 13th assist of the season.

Man of the Match Gnanduillet who again never stopped running and caused the Cheltenham defenders all kinds of problems. O'Shea played well again and seems to have found his form. Every player gave their all again and didn't deserve to be on the losing side.

Cook talking to the official website said:'Sometimes you don't get what you deserve, we know we have got to do better going forward but our supporters who travelled to Dagenham on Saturday and watched us tonight, I don't think they'll have any problems with our commitment and our effort. Everyone's down you can imagine how down the dressing room is rightly so. You should hurt, but when you work hard and keep working you'll get your little bounces. We're in a position in the league that none of us like.

That's what we the fans want the team to work hard and give their all and that's what they have done in the last two games. It's good that the team do feel hurt, it will make them more determined to make sure they win the next game which is at home to Bristol Rovers.
