'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Spireites Have A Better Record Than The Millers.

Although the Spireites have lost their last four leagues games away from Chesterfield against Rotheham, 3 out of the 4 games were at The Don Valley which should hardly count, because it as never been a football ground, the fans could not be seen or heard they were that faraway from the pitch.

The most signicent date between the 2 teams is the 22nd of September 1979, the Millers won 2-0 at their ground Millmoor in front of a crowd of 6,138. Little did they or anyone know that it would take almost 26 years before Rotherham would again beat the Spireites.

Chesterfield managed to win 11 of next 15 league games between the two teams. Although the Millers did come close in one of those games in the 1987/88 season when they led 2-1 at half-time at Saltergate, only for Dave Waller to score 2 more goals in the 2nd half to claim the match ball, to make sure the Spireites won 3-2.

The millers finally beat the Spireites on the 13th of August 2005/06 season a 1-0 win at Saltergate. Although the Spireites did make amends for it later that season by winning 4-0 at Millmoor with goals from Hurst, Niven, Allott and O'Hara in front of a crowd of 6,919.

The record between the two sides going back till the 1923/24 season is the Spireites have won 38, drawn 11 and lost 15, goals for 104 against 62 The Spireites away record against the Milliers is won 16 drawn 6 lost 9, goals for 38 against 30.

So can the Spireites go to the New York Stadium and come away with a victory lets hope so. One thing is for sure Paul Cook will be determined to make sure the players give their all for the wonderful following the team will get and have been given all season.

It will be a great occasion and the Spireite faithful will be the teams 12th man, they will be trying everything in their power to roar the team onto victory. If we do lose, we will accept it and go home peacefully, we will not cause trouble we will take it on the chin and move onto the next game.
