Cook Praises Fans For Their Support

Cook Praises Fans For Their Support

Cook wasn't happy when at half-time the Spireites at 0-0 were still in the Game, but a poor 18 minutes saw them concede 3 goals.

Talking to the club website Cook said: 'Tonight was a long way from good enough. We've been very good and you can take the plaudits as manager, but I will also take the criticism. I told the players after the game, 'we win together and lose together' and that will never change. But to play for this club you've got to show character and away from home, it is not always about being pretty and playing well.'

It was the Spireites heaviest defeat this season and probably their poorest display under Cook. Sometimes a defeat can be good for a club, it makes them realise they can't beat every team, also it makes them more determined to bounce back in their next game. They come up against a team full of experienced players at the top of their game. Cook goes onto praise Southend by saying: 'They Southend were brilliant, they were possibly the best team I have come up against this year. Great credit to them, they fully deserved the win and they look a good side. If that's the benchmark of what we're up against, then we have got to step up to the plate.'

You can probably learn more from a defeat then a victory, they know this is the level they need to reach if they want to win promotion from League 2. Cook talks about the fans and as a message for them: 'We can only thank our travelling support again, it was fantastic. They have been terrific, they travelled down in good numbers again a few days before Christmas and it cost a lot of money for them. Happy Christmas, it won't feel like it tonight.'

Cook as been brilliant since he arrived not only on the pitch but off it as well, he always acknowledges the fans and always as time for them.
