> With it being a 7.00 o'clock kick off I took my two boys along, they had eaten their tea before we set off. My youngest the 8 year old wanted a burger, I negotiated with him and said he could have an hot chocolate at half time to warm him up. He decided he wanted to sit in the corner were no one was sitting, two minutes before kick off we were surrounded by the singers, he later complained of an headache, he was getting tired by that point.
> Just over a thousand fans turned up to cheer on the Spireites. They out sang the home supporters from start to finish, making you proud to be a Spireite. A poor turn out from home supporters, around 3,000 Doncaster fans, meaning a quarter of the fans were supporting Town.
> Clay came in for the injured Allott and Randall made the bench. Paynter failed to connect with a cross from Coterill. In the 22nd minute Westcarr had a golden opportunity to score, and shot tamely at the keeper, after a low cross from Evans.
> Kyle Bennett was looking lively, hitting a shot from 25 yards, O'Donnell was at full stretch to ward off the danger. H.T. 0-0.
> O'Donnell pulled off two saves from Blake and then Brown from the rebound who had come on for Paynter at half time.
> Another save from O'Donnell to stop Blake from scoring with a close range effort after 68 minutes.
> Lester and Randall replaced Evans and Clay after 75 minutes. The Town fans raised the volume, as they sensed they could pull off an unlikely victory. Ball came on for Blake, Atkinson failed to pick him up at the corner and Ball headed home with his first touch.
> Lester had a great opportunity to equalise, not realising he had more time he failed to connect. F.T 1-0.
> The Holders go out of the Johnstones Paint Trophy, although they can be proud of their performance, they showed grit and determination against a team a league higher. Togwell performed well in Midfield he as enjoyed his role as captain. Trotman and Forbes were unlucky not to keep another clean sheet, Atkinson had been given the job to mark Ball, but failed to pick him up.
> O'Donnell put it a great performance, pulling off a string of fine saves and is my Man of the Match. It as not been easy for him coming in for the injured Tommy Lee, but he should be proud of way he as performed.
> Next game will see the Spireites entertain Dagenham and Redgrave, Lester will probably start and hopefully Hird and Whittaker will be available. If Spireites win on Saturday they will be right in amongst them at the top end of the table.
